Atrium Health has notified the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) about a data breach affecting over 585,000 individuals, likely linked to online tracking technologies on its patient portal between 2015 and 2019. These technologies, used to improve the user experience, may have transmitted personal information to third-party vendors like Google and Meta. An initial review in 2022 found no issues, but a more recent analysis revealed possible exposure of user data. The company is unsure exactly what data was transmitted, but assumes all users of the MyAtriumHealth or MyCarolinas portals from January 2015 to July 2019 are impacted.
