Two major Chinese solar manufacturers have been approved to build silicon wafer plants in Sichuan province, responding to tight supply and rising domestic demand for renewable energy materials. Tongwei Co. plans to construct a 20-gigawatt facility in Chengdu, with a budget of 700 million yuan ($95.5 million) and a completion target of September 2025.
