Operating as a Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS), Cicada3301 enables affiliates to rent their infrastructure for attacks, taking a 20% commission on profits. Active since June 2024, the group uses Rust-written ransomware capable of targeting Windows and Linux/ESXi systems, with tactics and ChaCha20 encryption similar to ALPHV/BlackCat. The group announced the breach on December 15, 2024, via its dark web leak site, continuing its pattern of targeting high-value organizations.
