Cybercriminals who hacked Rhode Island’s RIBridges system, which supports health and benefits programs, have released stolen data on the dark web, prompting the state to encourage residents to protect their personal information. Gov. Daniel McKee stated that IT teams and Deloitte, the system's developer, are working to assess the scope of the breach and identify affected individuals, who will receive letters offering free credit monitoring. Programs potentially impacted include Medicaid, SNAP, and HealthSource RI, though officials emphasized that compromised data hasn’t yet been confirmed as used for identity theft. McKee urged residents to take precautions like freezing their credit, requesting fraud alerts, and enabling multi-factor authentication to safeguard their information.
