Elon Musk announced that Tesla will launch a paid ride-hailing robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, in June 2025, utilizing its own fleet with an "unsupervised" version of Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. He provided few details but reiterated plans to release the software to owners in California and other U.S. regions this year, while allowing customers to add their vehicles to the fleet starting in 2026. Tesla has been testing FSD on factory grounds but has not disclosed how it measures safety compared to human drivers, raising concerns over real-world complexity.
