Google has released major Chrome updates to address three vulnerabilities, including two high-severity memory safety flaws reported by external researchers. One of these, CVE-2024-12381, is a type confusion bug in the V8 JavaScript engine, earning a $55,000 bug bounty, and potentially exploitable for remote code execution (RCE). Another flaw, CVE-2024-12382, is a use-after-free issue in Chrome’s Translate component, with the bounty for this still undisclosed. Memory safety flaws like type confusion and use-after-free errors could allow attackers to execute malicious code or compromise sensitive user data. Chrome 131 updates have been rolled out, with the latest version, 130.0.6723.160, available for Windows and macOS, including updates to the browser’s Extended Stable channel. Continue here.
