Social media scammers falsely promoted a New Year’s Eve "fireworks spectacular" in Birmingham City Centre, drawing thousands of people to Centenary Square. Excited crowds gathered in the area, only to discover that the reports of the display were fake, as confirmed by West Midlands Police. While revellers in other parts of the country enjoyed fireworks despite some cancellations due to stormy weather, Birmingham had no such event planned. Earlier in the day, Birmingham police addressed the rumors, warning people against traveling to Centenary Square for a non-existent display. Although disappointed Brummies went home without fireworks, London crowds were treated to a "world-first" Paddington Bear appearance in the New Year’s celebrations at the London Eye. Continue here.
