The South African government has ceased aid to illegal miners trapped in an abandoned mine as part of a crackdown on unlawful mining activities. Police halted food and water supplies, aiming to force miners, who can remain up to 4 kilometers underground for months, to come to the surface. Conditions underground are worsening, and one decomposed body was recovered on Thursday, according to police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe. Families, anxious for their loved ones, gathered near the site, expressing deep concern for those still underground.
